Seeing and Believing

My work is the result of a very personal and invented mysticism.   My paintings are filled with characters and places just outside the confines of reality.  I use my personal symbolism to portray the world as I prefer to see it through my imagination.  The subjects in my paintings reflect a humble “otherworldliness”. They are approachable and yet intangible.  Their intent is to question our own interpretations of the world we interact with on a daily basis.

The figures and animals are often gazing back at you. My hope is to engage the viewer into having a silent dialog with the paintings.  I hope that these strange, yet welcoming characters encourage viewers to become active in creating their own stories   They are meant to illicit a response of reflection, calm and bewilderment.

I absolutely love art mediums, and I am consistently experimenting with different materials.  My choice of technique and medium change frequently in respect to the mood and framework that I am hoping to portray in individual paintings.  I work in cold-wax, oil, gouache, watercolor, graphite, acrylic, and soft pastel.   Each piece that I work on has and must be translated visually through the materials and applications I use. I adjust my approach in ways that I feel will best convey my thoughts and ideas.
